Koparkhairane Welcomes 'Bappa Fulancha' Idol After 40-km Journey From Currey Road

Devotees in Koparkhairane welcomed the arrival of their 'Bappa Fulancha' idol on August 17, concluding an extraordinary 40-kilometre journey that began at Ganesh Sankul in Currey Road. The Ganpati trolley was transported entirely through human effort by dedicated mandal karyakartas, who pulled the idol without using any towing vehicle.
The mandal, officially known as Koparkhairanecha Icchapurti, has earned widespread attention across the region for its unique tradition of creating Lord Ganesha idols out of a mixture of flowers and soil. The eco-conscious concept has become the defining identity of the mandal, drawing devotees each year for its focus on sustainability and devotion.
A central aspect of the initiative involves the sourcing of the flowers incorporated into the idol's structure. The mandal collects floral offerings from various sacred locations to blend into the clay mixture. In past years, flowers from significant religious sites, including the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, have been used in the idol. For this year's celebration, organizers gathered flowers from several leading Ganesh mandals across Mumbai to form part of the idol.
The grand Aagman procession started on Sunday, August 16, from Currey Road in the Lalbaug-Parel belt, a central hub for Ganeshotsav festivities and Aagman Sohlas. The karyakartas steered the idol along the cross-city route over two days, making their way into Navi Mumbai.
The procession concluded on August 17 as residents and devotees gathered in Koparkhairane to celebrate the arrival of the idol ahead of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
